Better Call Paul Plumbing Ltd. has a mission to provide top-notch plumbing services for customers throughout Pictou County, with a specialization in project plumbing and new construction. We are committed to integrity and continued excellence, expanding our businesses and retaining clients.
We hire and train apprentice plumbers as part of our commitment to our customers and our community, ensuring they have hands-on experience and the attentive mentorship they need to excel in the field.
Our History
With more than 30 years of experience across Canada, Paul MacLeod, owner of Better Call Paul Plumbing Ltd., proudly serves Pictou County and surrounding areas. Born and raised in Barneys River, Paul is deeply rooted in the community. He trained as a plumber at the Colchester Educational Facility in 1992, later expanding his expertise in Vancouver, where he also became a Red Seal interprovincial pipefitter in 1999.
After decades in both trades and recognizing the growing need for reliable professionals in his home community, Paul returned home and launched Better Call Paul Plumbing Ltd. on July 28, 2023. His leadership, industry knowledge, and commitment to quality ensure customers receive dependable service and the best solutions for their needs.
Stef Swain‑MacLeod grew up in Little Harbour and is well known in Pictou County for her strong “support local” initiatives. A graduate of East Pictou Rural High School and the Nova Scotia Community College’s Human Services program, Stef brings extensive experience in office management, human resources, and safety program development.
Behind the scenes, Stef manages payroll, financial reporting, and accounts receivable while fostering a positive, supportive workplace culture that helps the team thrive.
Together, Paul and Stef combine local roots, strong leadership, and decades of professional expertise to deliver exceptional service to our community.
The Better Team
Maddy Shanahan joined our team in the summer of 2025, graduating from a two-year Business Administration Program at the Pictou Campus of the Nova Scotia Community College. Maddy is friendly and efficient, dedicated to helping us deliver high-quality services and quickly become the face and voice of our office. Maddy handles incoming calls, payment inquiries, schedules, and cancellations, plus all daily bookkeeping operations. Maddy ensures smooth day-to-day operations of our office.
Our team also includes 6 plumbers who work closely with Paul to ensure all projects are completed on time and within budget:

Team Days
We recognize the importance of team building. Your team makes, or breaks, your business, especially in a small place like Pictou County. We put in the effort every day to create a positive work environment where everyone feels valued and appreciated. Team building days are not only important for the foundation, but also for the people who make up that team and their stress levels. Every once in a while, you need to skip work to go axe throwing, go-karting, to the petting zoo, or simply have a BBQ with your team!
